Summary of conference call Wed. AM ... we talked with Fowler Staff -- Robin Antonio, Sales; Ricky Pope, Design Engineer; and Robert Scott, Installation coordinator. I'm attaching two photos of church interior that were previously sent to Fowler.
There was some concern about how projection system would be affected by seasonal banners (Christmas, Easter, VBS, etc.) since some congregations don't do well with change. According to conversations thus far, it is our impression that the situation with the banners can be addressed as the need arises ... either reconfigure their mounting toward the side walls, not use them in the sanctuary, or not use the projection system when they are in place.
Measurements were reviewed and confirmed. One question regarded the anticipated width of the projected image? We estimated about 6 feet (w/ 4:3 ratio, as opposed to 16:9 possibly in the future).
We also discussed ceiling mount (16' from wall) or balcony mount w/ long throw lens. Because of factors related to portability, installation, cost, etc., everyone agreed that balcony mount w/ long throw lens would be the way to go. At this point, Robert pointed out that all their projectors (typically Panasonic) come with standard lens, in addition to any long throw lens, because if our needs should change, it would be poor stewardship to purchase a standard lens separately for 3-4 times more than the initial cost now.
With a balcony mount and long throw lens, they felt that on-site installation would not be necessary and we could do it ourselves, because their design configuration and instructions are very detailed, and intended to be do-it-yourself. In any case, we'll still need an electrician. Fowler staff also pointed out that their technical support is 24/7, so that they can troubleshoot any last-minute problems if the need arises. Consequently, they said their quotes are typically a little higher than competitors selling a basic system configuration.
Fowler staff will be preparing a quote and sending it within the next week. Quote will likely include a year-end close-out model with a rebate. We should tentatively plan on a conference call meeting again in one week to review their quote. Let me know ASAP if there's a definite time on Wed., Dec. 12, that you can or cannot be a part of the next conference call. Thanks.
Dick Simmons will be providing other udpates, as necessary, with regards to other local contacts for multimedia enhancements.
